For those looking for sponsorship’s, fame and notoriety in the fitness industry…

I get posed questions often like, “how do I get a sponsorship”, “can you show my pictures to this or that photographer”, etc. What you must realize is this. In this fitness industry, sending pictures and head shots in to companies, in my opinion, is a huge waste of time and effort. First of all, when you go to these supplement lines, clothing companies, photographers etc, you are showing that you need them. What they want is someone THEY need. You have to ask yourself, “What do I have to offer, besides 6 pack abs, a nice physique and attractive face”. These companies want people who will represent their brand, push their brand and help them generate money. They receive hundreds if not thousands of photos, of in shape people with amazing bodies every week. What sets you apart?

In this day and age, social media is taking over in terms of advertising and marketing. So these companies are going to be attracted to athletes, personalities etc that either have a decent following, or are on the cusp of gaining that. They want to see if you have influence over people. How do you interact with those that ‘follow’ you. And also, what makes you unique.

My advice is to be extremely dedicated and faithful to your craft. If you are a trainer, qualify yourself to be the absolute best trainer you can be. When someone asks you a question, you can explain it in detail, so concisely that a child can understand. Constantly study, learn, know your craft inside and out. And that goes for fitness competitors, body builders, power lifters, anyone involved in this ‘Iron Sport’. You being extremely passionate and dedicated to your craft is an attractive attribute to those watching. You never know who’s watching. I personally got my 1st sponsorship by a major fitness clothing company ‘Better Bodies’ by the owner of the company monitoring my movements, interaction etc with my ‘followers’ on Facebook.. My winning shows didn’t get me a sponsorship. (not saying that you can’t get one like that) It was my mind, how I fed people with the best possible information and advice that I could give. The best form of motivation that I could provide etc. Also being in shape helps a lot. With these sponsorships, they send you on shoots, have you make appearances etc, and if you need a month to get in shape, you aren’t much of a help to the company.

You need to stand out from the pack. Have a specialty. Have something valuable to provide. Make these companies feel like they need you. Be 100% honest, dedicated and faithful to your craft. Be real and be yourself. Trust me, if you are doing the right things, you WILL be noticed, and they will come for you. These companies choose who they want. You sending in your head shots or tagging them in all of your photos will annoy them rather than persuading them that you are their guy or girl. Just stand out, stay on top of your trade, and stay true to yourself, and the right doors will open to you.

Unhealthy Obsession with ABS

Such a huge emphasis on being lean and having abs…. Honestly, what’s it worth if your abs only last a couple days? From what I’ve observed during my brief time in this “fitness industry” many of these “fitness” folks aren’t fit… For some, having abs is a result of being malnourished… I’m bringing this up to say this… If you are a part of this industry, try to actually be fit and healthy.. If you being healthy doesnt allow you to be the most shredded person on the planet, then so be it… I feel this obsession with being “shredded” is mentally unhealthy… Some have to do sooo much for this temporary look, they gain weight after and get depressed…. Beauty comes in all shapes and forms… It starts internally… Shines through in your personality, confidence and demeanor… Some of the most physically brautiful, strong and fit women I know don’t have 6 packs… That’s not to say they aren’t in optimal health… On the other hand, I know people who are fairly shredded all year round… Super high metabolisms and genetics that help them look that way… That’s fine…. I’m not bashing being shredded… All I’m saying is, be healthy with your journey of transformation… Try to aim for a sustainable look… Don’t feel pressured by seeing everyone’s 8 packs on Instagram and fb…. Most of those people don’t look like that in real life… They stand uner the best lighting(I’m guilty of that) twist their bodies at angles that make them look their absolute best, and probably threw some filters on to enhance the look…. Please don’t feel pressured to fit in with everyone… Embrace the beautiful body that your beloved parents gave you…. Be happy and healthy in your fitness pursuit… Don’t worry about everyone else….

Mental Jewels

Mental Jewels. Adorn your mind with wisdom like Solomon…

I see all of you bad asses killing it in the gym.. I love that… Dont forget to be good to your mind.. You dont train it, it’ll become weak.. Let not the majority of your conversations be about your body or training… I swear I want to change my name to Solomon… Not that I am as great as he, but I aspire to be a wise King like him.. Rich in wisdom… Not just knowledge… Anyone can memorize information and recite it.. Thats not impressive… Understanding that knowledge, putting it into application is true wisdom.. Thats when you are wise… I know plenty of dull witted people who can recite tons of info… That means nothing. What can you do with that information… How is that information relevant… How can you master that info? Have you mastered what you know? We are really wise and powerful when we can master ourselves.. Completely control our own lives.. Create our own paths… Become leaders.. Become good followers… There is nothing wrong with being a follower, as long as the person you are following is legit in YOUR eyes…

You must do what you want, what you feel you should do.. Not what people think is best, do what feels right for you… Fuck the status quo… Fuck the norm… There are so many ‘experts’ and know it alls, that think they have it all figured out… But guess what? Life is way to dynamic.. You’ll never have it figured out… Not fitness, not business, not relationships… Nothing… We must always act with the highest of intelligence but also move instinctually when navigating thru all that we do in life… Research what you plan on getting into, but also feel the walls when you get there… Listen, watch everything, and let your movements be in tuned with what you know and what you feel… Be good to yourself… Laugh, cry, cuss, hug, fight, kiss, fuck…

Tell people that you love how much you love them… Tell people that you dont like, that you dont like them and why… Step into actions with boldness… But never be too ‘Alpha’ that you cant take constructive criticism.. Or learn from a mistake… No matter how much it may sting, DO NOT reject the truth… And if you are a leader… Be a damn good leader.. Be an example… Dont half ass anything.. Dont be out of shape telling people how to be in shape… Dont be a cheater telling people not to cheat… Walk the walk… thats it. simple common sense…
